Love, What is It?

(*Note - we will be studying the Fruit of the Spirit, spending a long time.  We will be looking at different aspects of it through out the Bible.  My plan is to spend 5 days on each of the fruit and then rotate thru them again.)

But the fruit of the Spirit is LOVE Galatian 5:22

What is LOVE? (I have selected a few of the definitions)

love = 1. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend; 2. in consideration of; for the sake of;

Synonyms:
Love, affection, devotion all mean a deep and enduring emotional regard, usually for another person. Love may apply to various kinds of regard: the charity of the Creator, reverent adoration toward God or toward a person, the relation of parent and child, the regard of friends for each other, romantic feelings for another person, etc. Affection is a fondness for others that is enduring and tender, but calm. Devotion is an intense love and steadfast, enduring loyalty to a person; it may also imply consecration to a cause. 2. liking, inclination, regard, friendliness. 15. like. 16. adore, adulate, worship.

1, 2. hatred, dislike. 15, 16. detest, hate.

Discuss how we use the word "love" in our language.  "Love" food, toys, people, etc  Do we take the word for granted?  Using it in ways that cheapen it?

So how should we love???
John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

How did Jesus love us? Or should the question be, "How much did Jesus love us?"  He loved us so much that He died on the cross for our sins.  If we are living a cross-centered life, are we loving in a cross-remembering way?  Do we love other like Jesus loved us?  Do we give up our desires / wants for the wants of others?

How does this love look?
How do you treat your siblings?  How do you treat your friends?  Do you show them Jesus' love by what you do?  Do you show them love or hatred???

Song - Jesus Loves Me, O How I Love Jesus,  Jesus Loves the Little Children

Memory Verse
John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Activity
Let's practice our loving acts at home - 1st.  Make a heart - write "Love one Another" on it.  Give it to the person whom you choose to show love to in the following manner...  Do something loving for a brother / sister or parent.  Take care of one of their chores without being asked.  Offer to get them a drink or something to eat.  Look for an opportunity to show love toward a family member.  Be sure to do it with a smile and a loving word!!!  Remember - Jesus died on the cross for you, what are you going to do to show love?

Remember - we are saved by the grace of God, it is nothing that we have done or can do to earn our way to heaven.  We only have forgiveness because of what Jesus did for us!  None of the things that we DO earn us a better place in heaven.  It is because GOD LOVES us so much!!!

Prayer - Pray for God's help in showing love to each other.

Love Came Down

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 (ESV)

How is Love displayed in the Bible?

Love created the earth.
Love walked with Adam & Eve in the garden.
Love sent Adam & Eve away from the garden after they sinned.
Love chose a people as His own.
Love prepared a way, at the fullness of time for His Son to come.
Love sent His only Son, as a baby to be born in a lowly manger.
Love died on the cross for our sins.

How does it make you feel that God had a plan from the beginning of time?  Are you thankful for this gift of life?  How do you show others that you are thankful to God?  How are you sharing God's love to others this Christmas?

Love Came Down
Love came down, and we met Him in a manger
Love came down, and we treated Him a stranger,
love poured out, as we nailed him to a cross,
Love it paid the debt that I could not.

humble baby, lying in the hay
Came from Heaven, to be with man that day.
Not as a king, not on a throne,
he came as a man, in a carpenters home!

Love came down, and we met Him in a manger
Love came down, and we treated Him a stranger,
love poured out, as we nailed him to a cross,
Love it paid the debt that I could not.

Angels telling, of the Messiahs birth,
to Sheppard's watching, tending to the herds,
Behold he is here, the Savior of the world,
He's come to set you free, now go to him and see

Love came down, and we met Him in a manger
Love came down, and we treated Him a stranger,
love poured out, as we nailed him to a cross,
Love it paid the debt that I could not.

Not just for rich men, but those who are in need.
Not for righteous, but sinners, condemned like me.
Dont ya know that He, was perfect so he died
on the cross he payed the debt for you & I.

Love came down, and we met Him in a manger
Love came down, and we treated Him a stranger,
love poured out, as we nailed him to a cross,
Love it paid the debt that I could not.

Song
- Sing Away In The Manger...
Away in the Manger

Lyrics 1-2: ~ Anonymous, 3 ~ John Thomas McFarland, 1851-1913
Music ~ James R. Murray, 1841-1905

Stanza 1:
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

Stanza 2:
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

Stanza 3:
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray;
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And fit us for heaven to live with Thee there.

Memory Verse - John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Activity - Make a cross shaped ornament - include a heart.

Here is an ornament I made.  You can find it at my store here.

Cross-Centered Homeschool

A few months ago, I purchased a Homeschool Devotional.  We recently started using it, and I am kind of disappointed.  Here it is the Christmas season - and there are only a few things about Christmas.  This is one of the big times of the year for Christians - shouldn't there be more about Christ???

So, I was thinking about making a devotional book to use.  But I thought about how to record it - in Word, etc.  But I decided to start it on a blog.  Maybe I will gather parts of it together and make an e-book to start with....  But I want to start now on the Christmas season - or for the next few weeks.  I am also looking into starting to work on it for the new year - then maybe I can release an e-book for you all....
